Adult Gi
At Otherworld Jiu Jitsu, our Adult Gi Program is built around a modern, principle-driven approach to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Whether you're brand new or experienced on the mats, our program is designed to help you build a deep, functional understanding of the art in the gi.
We use a state-based method of drilling, which means students don’t just memorize techniques — they learn how to navigate specific grappling scenarios with purpose and adaptability. Every position and transition is taught with context, allowing you to develop decision-making skills that hold up under pressure.
Each class includes live situational training, where students work from focused positions to apply concepts in real-time. This bridges the gap between drilling and full sparring and helps reinforce retention through repetition in realistic settings.
We also include open sparring, providing students the space to experiment, refine their timing, and build resilience against a variety of partners and styles. It’s essential time on the mat for developing confidence and flow.
Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on open guard, equipping students with the tools to maintain and recover guard effectively while launching dynamic attacks and transitions. On the other side of the equation, we take a thoughtful approach to guard passing, grounded in controlling key variables like distance, angle, and tempo. The result is a passing system that adapts to real resistance and prioritizes strategy over brute force.
Kids Program
At Otherworld Jiu Jitsu, our Kids Program teaches real jiu jitsu—built on the same techniques and concepts we use in our adult classes. We believe young students are fully capable of learning the fundamentals of modern grappling, and we treat their development with the same care and structure.
We offer both gi and no-gi classes for kids, giving them a complete foundation in the sport. From the start, they’re exposed to the core positions, guard work, and passing systems that define effective jiu jitsu—regardless of uniform.
Classes combine drilling, live positional training, and supervised sparring to help kids build confidence, coordination, and physical literacy. Just like our adults, they learn through movement and experience—not memorization.
Beyond technique, we place a strong emphasis on being a good athlete: showing up prepared, taking training seriously, and treating partners with respect. Kids are encouraged to be honest with themselves and others, to take ownership of their growth, and to approach challenges with discipline and focus.
The result is a program that helps young grapplers grow not just in skill, but in character—on and off the mats.
Adult Nogi
At Otherworld Jiu Jitsu, our No-Gi Program follows the same modern, structured approach as our gi classes—rooted in clear concepts, situational awareness, and intelligent training design. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced grappler, this program gives you the tools to develop a technical, adaptable game in the fast-paced world of no-gi.
Like our gi curriculum, the no-gi program is built around a state-based method of learning. Instead of isolated techniques, we focus on training from specific positions and transitions that you'll encounter in live rolling. This helps students build a practical understanding of how to navigate real grappling scenarios with clarity and purpose.
Each session includes live situational training, allowing students to sharpen reactions and decision-making under realistic conditions. By focusing on particular positions—like passing from half guard or escaping leg entanglements—you develop skill sets that transfer directly to full sparring.
We also dedicate time to open sparring, where students can apply what they've learned, test new ideas, and build their timing against a wide range of training partners. This open mat time is essential for putting the pieces together and developing confidence under pressure.
Our no-gi curriculum features a strong emphasis on leglock systems, which we teach to all levels with a focus on safety, control, and conceptual understanding. We believe that lower-body attacks are an essential part of modern grappling, and we work to demystify them so every student can develop comfort in these positions—offensively and defensively.
